I started taking a gps on my trail runs about 18 years ago. Then GPS devices were quie large and only displaied you current long and lat. They did however store points along a route that could be downloaded into mapping software. I mapped many running trails here in So Calif this way. I was an early user of the first GPS devices made for athletes.
