The incident happened after a car crashed into a house in the early hours of this morning (6 July). The victim was declared dead at the scene, following which the police launched an immediate and immediate inquiry. A statement released by the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) said: "Officers are investigating reports that a car drove into a house in the city centre early this morning. "The incident involved an investigation team, a motorcyclist and a child in an earlier incident. "The driver of the car, a male of 20, sustained a number of injuries but is in a stable condition in hospital. "A woman in the house was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. An ambulance was called as a result of this incident. "We will release further information at a later date." The driver has been identified as 16-year-old Martin Murphy, from St. Patrick's Day Parade near East Renfrewscourt. A family spokesperson later confirmed that Murphy, a recent graduate, was a minor at the time of the collision and that he was in a stable condition at a local hospital. A spokesperson for the police said: "The initial preliminary inquiry into this incident has been launched and investigations are ongoing. At this stage we are not able to release further information." The Met has launched a probe to determine if it is to blame for the death of the child, who was last seen in the nearby town of North Down. RUC chief constable Peter MacGinty said the family has expressed regret for what happened but that their primary concern is for the girl's welfare. He said a number of calls to the school have been made, with all staff informed that an incident has been brought to their attention.
